I’m not delirious yet. but what made me want to join a virtual chair/standing exercise class? Because of Covid-19 we have been at home (except to go grocery shopping) since March. Then we were home in April, May and June. That is four months but our spirits are high and we are creative by creating my blogs. It is just that every day it feels like 100 degrees in Florida, even though the temperatures are only high 80’s and high 90’s and summer just started one week ago.

Anyway, I have never been much of an athlete unless you call walking an olympic event. I use it only to get from one place to another. I played at tennis and golf but my favorite activity was always dancing; the thrill of the music combined with movement. This February, when it was winter, there were a few days that weren’t hot so I walked around the neighborhood with Kathy. Now, we use a huge umbrella just to go outside and get our mail and it does help for the few seconds we are out and the sun is beating down on us.

I was surprised to see a notice on my computer that my teacher, Robyn, was going to offer a virtual exercise class. I haven’t moved my body in four months; was I able to participate? I had put on a few pounds and not sure which way I could even bend. I mean I was used to getting a tan just opening up my refrigerator. Would I even fit into my tights to work out? Well, I decided to be brave and adventurous in my own home. And, of course, I now understand why they call them “tights”. It took a lot of jumping up and down just to get the right parts of my body settle in the places it was suppose to. Putting on the sleeveless top was not as much of a challenge as the bottom.

So the morning of the reckoning, I placed my one pound weights and my stretch band on the floor beside my chair. I already raised my metabolism. And as my heart started to beat faster, as I was feeling fear, I am sure my metabolism climbed to the rate of a triathlon trainer. I adjusted my computer to be able to see the teacher as we zoomed (Love my new word) onto the set. And there she appeared; Robyn with her smiling face and a show of confidence that we, her senior senior citizens, could keep up with her.

We started by sitting in our chairs and doing stretches and weights using our dumbbells (no remarks, please) and our stretch bands. Then twenty minutes later we rose from our chairs to start marching. I did it! I was on a roll! Then during the last half of the class we started to do the steps of the cha, cha and the merengue. I have to tell you that working out makes you feel sexy. Did you ever feel that way? I was ambivalent about the session ending. I so enjoyed it but was concerned how I would feel the next day.

Well, the next day another class was advertised: a class on pilates and yoga. As I said, I was on a roll and I didn’t ache from the workout the day before. So I took my second class in two days. This one was a little more challenging but I endured. Paul took some photos while I was working out. After looking at them, I realized I had some catching up to do but it is so worth it!
