Now does this title refer to my first Chemotherapy session or to Inauguration Day or to the Super Bowl? These three Events are all part of my life. Some more meaningful than the others or, at least, more personal. One happened January 11, 2021; my first Chemo session. The next, which is the Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, will happen this week on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 and the Super Bowl will be played early in February, 2021.
So let’s take the first activity. I was strangely calm as Paul drove me down to Boca for my first treatment. I think the only trepidation, perhaps, was due to the unknown for me. I just didn’t know what to expect. The reception personnel were very warm and professional and guided me to the Infusion Room where I saw several people resting on recliner chairs either sleeping or reading. The Nurse escorted me to my recliner which was separated from the others and next to a whole set of windows. The setting couldn’t have been better for me. The nurse explained the procedure to me and then inserted the needle and brought over the IV bag. It was all very organized and alleviated any anxiety I may have had. The unknown was now known. The treatment only took 30 minutes and I didn’t even have time to open my book. Before I knew it, I was on my way down the elevator and outside the door as Paul and Kathy pulled up in the car. Their timing was perfect! While I was having my treatment, they went shopping at Whole Foods which was just down the street.
We came home and I felt fine all the rest of the day and the next day. But by the second evening I was slightly nauseous and soon some bone ache started up and down my body. The nurse had recommended Claritin for the pain and I was happy that Paul had picked up some earlier in the week. My aching bones only lasted for a couple of days and I was able to manage the pain which was due to inflammation. I believed that the four months I had lived a really healthy lifestyle saved me from having more side effects. And I shall always be grateful for the advice I received from dear friends throughout the country. It was a time well spent.
Next, we look forward to the Inauguration. Washington, D.C. is shut down as 15,000 National Guards have arrived in the district. And that number will swell to 25,000 on Wednesday, the day of the Inauguration. Because of Covid-19, this was going to be the most shut down Inauguration in recent history anyway. And now, because of the Chaos on January 6 when the insurgents stormed the Capitol. the protection around the Capitol will be tighter than it has ever been. We pray for a peaceful transition and for the safety of our new leaders.
