Talk about surprises that happen in your life……..
I went to the Dermatologist recently to check out a spot on my head (which turned out to be a nothing). But she noticed a bump on my arm. I’m not ready to say lump. She asked me to get a Cat Scan just to check it out. And she ordered a copy to be sent to my Primary Doctor. When the results came in, the two of them had a consultation; said it was inconclusive and wanted me to have an MRI. So another trip to the Diagnostics of America Center. I thought they were going to Xray just my arm but they put me completely in that tunnel. You know, the one with noise that sounds like construction workers are cracking up sidewalks on the street. They gave me earphones with the worst kind of loud music and I still could hear the urhhh of the bulldozer in the background.
Well, you guessed it. The MRI came back and again it was inconclusive so they set me up with a Surgeon for a consultation. I went today to meet him; a very nice doctor who looked like a broad shouldered basketball player wearing a yarmulke. or yamaka depending on which segment of Judaism you follow. He was very nice and calm and even gave me, with my permission, a breast examination. I didn’t tell him that I was not shy since the days of my acting career when we used to change costumes between the curtains before we went back to the stage for our performance.
He then told me he did not find anything suspicious in my breasts and he would like me to have a Mammogram. I used to get Thermograms instead of Mammograms because I think they were less invasive. I will have to talk to him about that decision.
In the meantime, he said he found another small bump; when will I be able to say lump? And it was in the area of my armpit so his next recommendation was to set up an appointment for a biopsy. So that I guess I will do because I need the information to make an educated decision how I want to go.
So follow me on this journey as we move from place to place, hospital to hospital where I will get the biopsy. As I learn more and progress on my journey, I will share my experience with you. Some of you may have similar experiences.
Upon rereading this, I realize I didn’t mention that when I got back into the car with Paul, I had a 20 second meltdown with tears and all. And then that was over as I decided to go home, have lunch and go about my business with a laugh or two as usual.
Before the ll:00 appointment today, I took my Monday 9:00 am virtual exercise class and I have one tomorrow with Pilates and Yoga and I will continue my schedule which will be interrupted only by these appointments.
And lastly, since we are still in the horrific days of the Covid-19 ( which I mention in all my blogs), that when I entered the hospital today for the consultation, I found out that they wouldn’t let Paul in to even escort me up to the third floor. But outside of the hospital I have a great team of support. That and my Angels will carry me through!
