About Suzanne Rosoff

Suzanne Gould Marks Rosoff was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on February 6, 1933 and grew up in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh. At age 19 she married at the Tree of Life Synagogue. She had two children at age 21 and 23; in spite of being a young mother she found time to follow her heart's passion of adding her voice to counter the injustices of the world. She took her very young children and together they marched for civil rights and joined in singing "we shall overcome" in the Baptist Churches. Later she marched for women's rights in Washington, D.C., with Gloria Steinem as the leader.

As her children grew, her love of music became an important part of her life. She entertained around the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Virginia. Later she took a job at WQED-TV, home of the Mr. Rogers' show. She became Associate Producer of two Award Winning Docu-Dramas called "The Turned-on Crisis" and the "Family Game." Together with an engineer at the station, she started an Explorer Scout Troop of boys and girls, black and white, all ages. They did not turn anyone down who wanted to learn new ways of living peacefully together and learning skills that they would use later in life.

After her divorce, she moved to Washington, D.C., where her love of music led her to join the Liz Lerman "Dancers of the Third Age." They performed at the Dance Place, Wolf Trap, and Kennedy Center. Again, because she wanted to support people to be healthy, while she was living in the Boston area, she started a business called Macro Mama. She developed recipes for Tofu Egg Salad and Tempeh Salad. When she moved to Miami, she opened a restaurant called Suzanne's Vegetarian Restaurant.

Her other careers included B & B's in the Berkshires and Boston, teaching ballroom dancing on many cruise lines around the world, and acting in The Reader's Theatre in Asheville, NC. She was a guest commentator and wrote many published Letters to the Editor in Asheville. Therefore, Choose Life is her first published book. She hopes you find it another new experience in your life.

And ‘Tis the Day of…

By |2020-08-07T20:41:08-04:00August 5th, 2020|

Today is biopsy day.  Relatively calm. Huge breakfast. Oatmeal with banana, blueberries and raisin.  One fried egg with toast and side of avocado.  Coffee. Still hungry.  Nerves?  Two pancakes with syrup on bottom and wild blueberry jelly on top. There. That feels good.  Nerves.  Naww……………I don’t feel it on the outside so it must be in my subconscious.  That breakfast was for the size of a wrestler………..not me…………

Finally, it was 11:30.  We piled into the car, the three of us……..Paul, Kathy and I.

Appointment for noon.  Kathy and I walked into lobby and checked in while Paul parked the car.  Then […]

‘Twas the night before…

By |2020-08-05T21:50:49-04:00August 4th, 2020|

Here it is, the night before the biopsy on my right arm.  It has taken about a month in the “system” to finally get to this point.  It is amazing how much miscommunication there can be between doctors and less communication between doctors and patients.  Aw, another spelling of patients……patient.  That is what I have been these past few weeks while trying to navigate the medical profession.

I seem to be working with three doctors; my primary doctor, my dermatologist, and the surgeon who told me “that is what I do, remove lumps and bumps”. Well, I wasn’t ready to go […]

My Medical Journey (So Far)

By |2020-07-29T17:37:07-04:00July 29th, 2020|

I now know why I prefer going the “natural route” in my life. I am mostly a vegetarian, I walk or work out three times a week, I have happy thoughts and I walk away from negative people. But I have had a bump in the road or excuse that pun as it really is a bump on my arm.

I have recently seen three doctors, have had a Cat Scan and an MRI and a Mammography and numerous phone calls which I will list for you.

After my initial consultation with the Surgeon, I decided I wanted a biopsy first. It […]

Next Part of My Journey

By |2020-07-24T11:29:46-04:00July 22nd, 2020|

Today I had an appointment for my Mammography. The Surgeon’s office in Boca Raton still hadn’t called me to set an appointment for the mammography so I called my primary doctor in Boynton Beach and he was able to schedule an appointment for today.

They wouldn’t allow Kathy or Paul inside the waiting room, and since the office was only a few minutes drive from our house, I told them to go home and I would call when I was finished. So interesting, since the onset of the Covid-19, how each office handles the sanitation of their individual spaces. I checked […]

Take the Journey with Me

By |2020-07-17T16:14:55-04:00July 17th, 2020|

Talk about surprises that happen in your life……..

I went to the Dermatologist recently to check out a spot on my head (which turned out to be a nothing). But she noticed a bump on my arm.  I’m not ready to say lump.  She asked me to get a Cat Scan just to check it out.  And she ordered a copy to be sent to my Primary Doctor.  When the results came in, the two of them had a consultation; said it was inconclusive and wanted me to have an MRI.  So another trip to the Diagnostics of America Center. I […]

A Most Unusual 4th of July

By |2020-07-07T23:02:36-04:00July 7th, 2020|

This is the first time that I remember celebrating the 4th of July while social distancing. This time it felt like a deflated balloon.

Our Board, of which I am a member, planned an exciting parade of cars and golf carts to go around our three neighborhoods within our Gate. Paul and I decorated our golf cart with red, white and blue streamers and other 4th of July paraphernalia which we kept from our days in Asheville, North Carolina.

Suzanne Rosoff - 4th of July parties Asheville NCEvery year, on the 4th in Asheville, […]

I’m No Athlete

By |2020-06-26T12:08:28-04:00June 26th, 2020|

I’m not delirious yet. but what made me want to join a virtual chair/standing exercise class? Because of Covid-19 we have been at home (except to go grocery shopping) since March. Then we were home in April, May and June. That is four months but our spirits are high and we are creative by creating my blogs. It is just that every day it feels like 100 degrees in Florida, even though the temperatures are only high 80’s and high 90’s and summer just started one week ago.

Anyway, I have never been much of an athlete unless you call walking […]

Reflection

By |2020-06-20T16:18:51-04:00June 19th, 2020|

Because of Covid-19 many people are spending much of their time at home; and some writers are using this time to write articles and books. And it also seems to be a time for reflection.

Sometimes I go back to the time when I was three years old and Gene Kelly, whose mother had a dance studio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, taught me how to tie my shoes.  And he instilled in me a love of dancing which I have to this day.  This thought brings me forward many years later when a group of dancers in a Broadway production offered the […]

We Must Lift Our Voices in Protest

By |2020-06-10T19:32:38-04:00June 11th, 2020|

Well, I am still home because the numbers for the Covid-19 virus are going up and more and more citizens are being assaulted by it. The higher numbers seem to coincide with the opening of more businesses that previously were shut down due to the virus. So, since I am home and going through some old files, I found this article which was published in the Asheville Citizen-Times newspaper on September 8, 2012. I was the Guest Commentator. So much that was written then is relevant today; be it protesting or voter suppression,

I love my country…. but feel that the […]

On Turning Eighty!

By |2020-06-10T19:13:32-04:00June 10th, 2020|

Can you believe it is over three months now that, because of Covid 19, we are still under a social distancing edict with orders to still wear masks when we go out?  And many of us are still staying home to protect ourselves.  Yes, we may go to a store once in a while but things just “ain’t what they used to be”.  With that in mind, I just found another article I wrote when I traveled to Italy to celebrate my 80th birthday……………….

We keep reading articles that state 40 is the “new” 20 and 50 is the “new” […]
